  • How does Behalf Financing Work?

It all starts with the Behalf online enrollment process to set up your business customer portal which can be completed in 2 minutes or less. Upon successful enrollment and business bank connection, Behalf Business Customers will be assigned a customized Purchasing Limit based on meeting financing pre-eligibility checks, including on credit and bank standing.

During the enrollment process, Business Customers will set their transaction initial preferences for using Behalf, including the financing details. Each transaction is an application for financing drawn down from the Purchasing Limit and is each individually underwritten for approval. This is designed for your convenience as it will speed up processing times when you are ready to submit a transaction (application for financing).

Business Customers will use their online customer portal to then submit one or more transactions to any approved merchant in the Behalf network up to the amount of their Purchasing Limit. They will also use the customer portal to manage their Behalf enrollment and transaction preferences either through their tablet, online or on their phone in an embedded software application.

  • What if my merchant is not signed up to use Behalf?

Signing up to accept Behalf as a merchant is a quick and easy process, especially if the merchant accepts VISA. If the merchant would like to be paid by ACH, they would also set up their own merchant online profile through the Behalf Merchant enrollment process here.

Behalf currently has over 5k approved merchants in its network and the process to add is fairly simple.

Behalf currently accepts merchants that have an established U.S. presence such that they have a formal established physical presence in the U.S. as well as have a valid U.S. business bank account.

  • What states does Behalf conduct business in?

Behalf offers financing in most U.S. states as well as in the United States territories. Currently, Behalf does not conduct business in Colorado, North Dakota and West Virginia.

Please note that for commercial bank loans made by FinWise, availability in the U.S. Territories may be limited.  Please contact us for more information at

  • How many soft credit hits does Behalf conduct?

When a business customer signs up for Behalf, a ‘soft’ inquiry will be made on the business contact or Responsible Party’s personal credit history and is included as a factor in the business’s eligibility for a Behalf Business Account. In addition, we will obtain a business credit report.

We will perform periodic soft inquiries into the business contact or Responsible Party’s personal credit history to monitor the business’s eligibility for any terms changes. These periodic credit reports are commonly referred to as ‘account management inquiries’ and do not have an impact on your credit score, as they are soft inquiries.

When a business requests an extension of the purchasing limit, Behalf reserves the right to pull a soft inquiry, as part of the terms and conditions agreed to when signing up with and using Behalf.

  • What is Purchasing Power?

In addition, Behalf will obtain a business credit report.

    3. Once the review of your submitted transaction is completed, you will receive a decision email from Behalf. If the transaction is approved, you will then be able to complete the purchase from your merchant.

  • How do merchant payouts work? Why does Behalf give all financing proceeds to the merchant?

We make it easy for you to obtain business financing and ensure that your vendors, suppliers and merchants are paid as soon as possible. By giving the money directly to the merchant, it is one less hassle for you as a business owner to worry about. Not only does this reduce overhead on managing your accounts payable and receivables, but it builds your business because it fosters relationships with merchants who enjoy getting paid rather than wait 30-60-90 days for their invoices to be paid AND it frees up working capital for your business to buy more business goods and services needed to expand your business’s growth opportunities.

  • When will my business’s Merchant get paid?

The timing may vary but overall it is generally the next business day after both transaction approval and merchant acceptance subject to cut-off times and business hours, merchant and bank policies and other potential processing delays.

Specific timing of merchant payout will vary and depend on several factors. First, timing varies based on whether the transaction is paid via Automatic Clearing House (ACH) Transfer or Virtual Card (VC) Transaction.

Assuming a transaction is approved and accepted by the merchant, transactions paid by ACH transfer generally may take up to 3 and a half days if submitted after cut-off times (federal holidays and weekends are excluded). This is because of the specific way ACH processing is completed.

For transactions paid by VC, the timing is generally faster, assuming there is transaction approval and merchant acceptance, the processing happens from 60 seconds to a few minutes typically.

  • What is ACH?

ACH stands for Automated Clearing House, a U.S. financial network used for electronic payments and money transfers. Also known as “direct payments,” ACH payments are a way to transfer money from one bank account to another without using paper checks, credit card networks, wire transfers, or cash.

These ACH transactions are bundled and processed in large volumes for credit (push)  and debit (pull) transactions in batches. ACH processing is conducted through the association of NACHA.

The difference between ACH credit and ACH debit is that an ACH credit transaction is initiated by the sender of funds, usually a bank, whereas an ACH debit transaction is initiated by the receiver of funds. In ACH debit transactions, the transaction is initiated by the receiver of funds and the bank receives the payment request by the payee and then sends the funds per the request.

Behalf uses ACH transfers to send the financing proceeds to the end merchant that you agreed to make a purchase with for your business needs and for Merchants that elected to set up to receive payment by this payout method.

ACH Transfers are used to also process direct debit transfers for processing debits either for repayment on an installment loan or to process a debit associated with a merchant cash advance.

  • What determines whether a merchant is VC or ACH Merchant?

A variety of business factors may dictate whether a merchant signs up to be paid by VC or ACH. If a merchant accepts VISA, you generally elect to submit transactions or place Order(s) for approved business purchases to any VC merchant subject to terms and conditions.

If a merchant signs up to use Behalf and solely accepts ACH, then that is the method of payment for transactions made to that merchant.

  • Will Behalf guarantee the timing of merchant payment?

Behalf cannot guarantee the payment processing timeline for payouts.  Each Merchant’s processing time will vary according to their own policies. Additionally, processing time may be impacted based on each merchant’s bank’s policies.

  • Why does it matter how merchants get paid?

Because merchants get the financing proceeds directly when you check out for your business, it is important that they get paid timey and upfront.

    VC Merchants:

Approved transactions that are accepted by the merchant for fulfillment before cut-off times are paid the same day.
Transactions that are not approved with normal processing times due to processing delays will be paid as soon as approved, submitted.

    ACH Merchants:

Did you submit the business transaction* before cut-off times or 4:45 PM ET Monday – Thursday?

Great news! Business financing proceeds will be initiated for payment typically the next business day if the Customer’s transaction approval is processed before Behalf’s cut-off times and the Merchant accepts fulfillment of the Order.

While many transactions can be processed in many cases with a same-day underwriting decision, each order is a separate Transaction, and processing delays could occur such as when additional information or verification is required. Additionally, while Behalf will initiate transfer to Merchant’s Bank, the processing times can vary with each of the merchant’s bank policies for receiving payment by ACH.

Did you submit the business transaction* after 4:45PM ET on Thursday?

It looks like you’ve missed the ACH cutoff for the current week. Once your business transaction is approved and accepted it’ll take a few extra days for the payment to be initiated to your Merchant. It could take up to three and a half days. For example, let’s say your transaction occurs at 6:00 PM PT on Thursday. In this case, business financing proceeds would be initiated for payment to the merchant sometime on Monday.  Federal holidays and weekends are excluded.

  • When are ACH payments processed through the banking systems?

Typically between midnight and 3 a.m. but every Bank varies in terms of when they record deposits and make funds available.

ACH is not real-time or immediate. Same day ACH payments can be settled in hours if the conditions are right. Virtually all types of ACH payments, including debit and credit transactions can be eligible for same day settlement except international or those above $25,000.

Each financial institution may set up their own processing times. Typically batches are run three times a day on business days only.

The ACH Network does not settle payments on weekends (or holidays) when the Federal Reserve system is closed. This applies to both ACH credits (Direct Deposits) and ACH debits (bill payments).
