Sharing Knowledge to Power SMBs
Behalf is finding ways for our customers
to get the future funds* in the form of tax credit refund* they need to bounce back
During the darkest days of the pandemic, it was understandable if small business owners felt all alone, with few resources and little hope for the future. As we undergo a slow rebound, small business owners still need help.
At Behalf, we want to make our valued customers aware of a little-known and often misunderstood lifeline. A source of federal COVID financial assistance that can deliver small businesses the refunds in the form of a tax credit* and possible tax refund* they need to maintain operations and survive the pandemic.
Spotlight on the Employee Retention Credit (ERC)
Launched in March 2020, the ERC is a federal initiative to support efforts to keep employees on the payroll during the pandemic. And it’s still relevant to small business owners today.
The ERC was:
- Extended through Q3 2021
- Revised in 2021 with retroactively relaxed eligibility requirements
- Expanded to permit Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) applicants to potentially receive an ERC
Businesses with 500 or fewer W-2 employees may qualify* if they were impacted by COVID through:
- Operations suspended or curtailed by government order (e.g., restaurants, gyms, barbers/salons, all of which had indoor capacity closed or limited)
- A drop in gross receipts compared to the same quarter in 2019:
- For 2020, a 50% drop in YoY gross receipts in any quarter
- For 2021, a 20% drop in gross receipts compared to the same quarter in 2019
An opportunity not fully explored
Many small businesses may qualify* for up to $26,000 per W-2 employee* (excluding W-2 business owners) in ERC refunds* in the form of a tax credit and possible refund—but less than 25 percent of businesses who may qualify* have filed for ERC assistance.
There are several reasons:
- The ERC filing process is complex and time-consuming
- Changing eligibility requirements have resulted in confusion
- Many CPAs and payroll firms are unaware of the ERC or its eligibility requirements
We want our customers to receive all the federal COVID relief to which they’re entitled.
